As
an added bonus to fishing the fabulous Hinchinbrook Channel we have a myriad
of freshwater Rivers and creeks to fish. Rivers like the Murray, Tully and
the Hull, creeks like the Kennedy and Meunga Creek, not forgetting a host
of lagoons such as Barrets.
All these rivers and creeks hold freshwater fish in there uppers reach’s,
nice Sooty Grunter, Jungle Perch, Eel-tailed Gudgeon, Tarpon, Mangrove
Jack and of course Barramundi. No boat required for this fishing just a
good pair of walking shoes. Be prepared to enjoy some beautiful country as
you walk the banks, flicking lures as you go.
Light gear is the norm as the lures are small, so a light spinning
outfit should suffice. I like to use surface lures, as they are a surface
feeding fish and its more fun, usually a small popper or even the small
“Gold Bomber”. I love sight fishing, nothing better than when a nice
“Sooty” smashes your lure.
So if its blowing too much to fish the Channel or you just love to “Fish
the Fresh” give Cardwell Shire a Go!
